It’s getting worse…
So on Tuesday the FBI arrested two former NETELLER execs, John Lefebvre, 55, and Stephen Lawrence, 46, both Canadian citizens and both indicted by a grand jury in New York. They were arrested while traveling separately through the US.
From what I have found out, Mark Mershon, who is the assistant director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, said the multibillion-dollar online gambling industry is “a colossal criminal enterprise masquerading as legitimate business.” So, the arrested them for aiding US citizens in online poker. Ridiculous.
Today NETELLER announced that they are no longer catering to US customers who are using NETELLER for online poker. They stopped their services one minute past midnight this morning.
There are a few other companies still catering to online poker money transfers including Click2Pay, Payspark, and Instadebit.
This is all just getting too ridiculous and I am scared to see what the future holds. I’ve contacted people from Full Tilt to hear their opinion on it and I will let you know what they say.
In case you don’t know the whole situation about the bill that was passed I will include another post with Annie Duke explaining everything.
We can only hope that a carve out will be granted for online poker. If you aren’t already a member you should join the PPA. It is the Poker Players Alliance and they are fighting to protect poker. Check out the website for all the info.
I just got off the phone with Michael Craig. He had a lot to say…and it wasn’t good.
“It’s not business as usual as these poker sites were continuing on as. It’s a scary thing. It’s a wake up call. The stuff that happened in October dissipated…this is a reminder that there are people who are evil towards what we are involved in. NETELLER was a monopoly. Hundreds of thousands of people were using NETELLER to get money in and out now all those people have to figure out what to do.”
“I think that the growth of this activity of ours is pretty much falling apart. People that don’t have online poker accounts aren’t going to pick now to get one. I don’t think people that are losing players without a lot of experience are going to be putting more money in. Someone that plays casually, not profitably, is going to stop playing. He isn’t going to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what to do with NETELLER gone.”
“I was voicing caution and optimism after law passed…and I am hoping it will work out.”

Great piece. This clears up some of the uncertainty I had on the situation.
