Amateur Poker
Amateur poker players can be found in league events and tours. For example, the Amateur Poker League (APL) is an amateur poker league found in the United States. Players are allowed to join any time during the season without buy-in fees. The Amateur Poker League hosts three championship events based on a three-tiered monthly, semi-annual regional, and national championship structure.
The World Amateur Poker Tour, on the other hand, is where amateurs play Texas Hold’em against opponents in an organized but worldwide environment with the best amateur poker players in the world. Tour players can establish their amateur world ranking on the World Ranking Point System or compete for Amateur Player of the Year and play for their country’s national team.
